LIDA MOSER PHOTOGRAPHER

Lida Moser (1920-2014) the hero of this animated documentary, was a New York photographer who travelled throughout Quebec during the summer of 1950, on assignment to Vogue and Look Magazines.

Filmmaker Joyce Borenstein recorded Moser remembering her journey sixty years later. Moser took over one thousand photos of a society and place that was on the cusp of modernization. As Moser recounts her road trip, we relive Quebec 1950 through her exquisite black and white photos. Her stories are enriched by archival sound recorded by the Quebec ethnologist Luc Lacourcière who accompanied Moser on the journey. Paul Gouin, Cultural Advisor to the Premier of Quebec, drove Moser and Lacourcière throughout the journey and acted as a guide for Moser into Quebec's culture.

Moser had a simple yet powerful artistic vision, 'to capture beauty on film' and she pursued this goal throughout her career, ignoring the artistic fashions of the day. Moreover, with the Quebec photo series, Moser froze a period in time for future generations to remember. 

Lida Moser’s artistic vision inspired Borenstein to create this auteur documentary which interweaves animation and time lapse shooting with the photos.
